Web development: I like doing coding and finding out how to do new things, I think I have a good handle on it, I try to do everything from scratch so I've yet to tweak a template.

Writing/Editing: I don't think I'm a very good writer, but I do try. I'm often a good editor though, and like being fresh eyes to look over something and catch mistakes or suggest different wording for things.

Video: I can't say I'm good at video, I know how to edit sound rather well in Audacity, as I've taken DTC Storytelling

Graphic Design: I think of myself as an artist and I think if given ideas I could create graphics and or some sort of logo if needed.

Cue Meloncholy Music

When people think of homeless, they often first think of men and women without work

Lack of expirience. Lazy.

With drug habits, unable to afford a home

Seeing the numbers, the drawings of children stading grey and lost in the stark purple background, the only colors being white grays and purple, As i said the quiet, meloncholy music playing in the background strikes right at your emotions.

"My dad calls me princess. My brother pimps me out. My mom gave me meth when I was 4. 

This dosent feel like family."

The boys and girls that are highlighted, quotes popping above their heads hammer in this feeling of pain and sadness. The bright white text of the quotes give emphesis and draws your eye to them.

I could feel my chest tighten with shock.

The audience of this video becomes clear, tax-payers, people who are in a position to help, or to donate. With just a little help- you could move one of these children and teens to a brighter future.

Cue Music shift, Rising in power.

A simple call to action- Giving a child the resources they need to rise up.

Everything changes.

She grows up.

And no matter how many times I've watched this video, it still gives me a tightness in my chest, and my eyes water. The message is clear- With little effort you can save someone- A teenager, from the streets.

As the mood and tone changes, the visuals shift as well. The background a bright white rather than the purple, her life changes and so does the color of her world.

And in turn, she can change the color of others.

Simply put- you can help change theirs as well.

A simple message to get the word out, and get donations

Because every child needs a home.

Feedback

The feedback I got was very positive, she understood what I was doing and planning to do

She did suggest putting an overlay of text onto the video, and I will see during the editing process if there are points of my own I want to highlight with text.

I dont typically talk about politics all that mich, so I was a little at a loss for what to do for this project. I decided to do one of two things, though one I think will be much easier and funner to present at a face value, rather than what I know from watching and digging deeper.
My idea is eitger cocoon houses advertising to get help for homeless or in danger teens, or Anita Sarkezian's youtube seroes on females in games. Though I think the cocoon house is much more fitting for this assignment.

Blog #1

Looking at the two of these twitter profiles, and knowing their names I know a little about them. They visually are very similar, their backgrounds have the same premise of a sky and a plant of sorts, though in different seasons. Their icons are vastly different though, one a cartoon figure and the other what I can assume is a family photo. From these I think Kristin is a little more fun-loving while Jenny is more centered around family. Their profile descriptions (Linguistic Mode) both give me different feelings. Kristin's is joking, using short chopped sentences while Jenny's flows and seems well thought-out. The differences in the content and sentence structure makes me think one is more serious while the other is silly.

As they are both professionals, I imagine they don't go bragging about wild parties on their twitters, I imagine they use their twitters as a way to talk to students a little more casually, looking at a recent tweet from Kristin she mentions her students. 

I have a twitter, but I do not actively use it. The background is of a drawing I made, and my icon is from a ARG(Alternate Reality Game), I think this one is from Marble hornets. I tried to

use my twitter as a way to interact with these, and keep up with them. As I went into college I used it to keep up with school, and try to socialize though it. 

The first of my two Additional twitter profiles is that of Weird Al Yankovic's, a popular comedy artist who's known for his parodies. From the description, to the silly face of the background

and avatar, this profile just makes me smile.

The final twitter profile is of one of the ARG's I follow, Marble Hornets. The profile is very casual in itself, adding to the feel of this is a real thing, not some creation. If it was a creation they'd want to advertise their twitter right? Have a background of a poster or something relating to the plot of the ARG- But that's the beauty of this profile. Every single thing about this relates to Marble hornets. At least, if you know about marble hornets you'd know this. The Icon is a still frame from one of the videos, each tweet relates to the lore and the going ons of the ARG, things that you don't get to see in the videos they post. The background is one of the default twitter backgrounds- But if you know who Slender man is, and the myth's that go with it, you'll know its significance.

Introduction

Hello! My name is Shaina Bengston and I am a DTC major. I want to end up doing character design for videogames once (or before) I graduate. I love drawing and creating characters.
I'm taking this class because it is required,  I have been in it before, taught by Kristin Arola, but I had to take a medical withdrawl last semester, so here I am re-taking it.
I hope to do much better in the class this time and I am looking forward to it.
